Volunteer with Goodwill of Greater Detroit
Goodwill of Greater Detroit offers meaningful volunteer opportunities across Southeast Michigan for individuals who want to give back, gain job skills or complete community service hours.
Why Volunteer with Us?
When you volunteer with Goodwill, you help create brighter futures for local residents by supporting our mission to build pathways to independence through personal development and the power of work.
You’ll gain valuable experience, connect with others and give back to your community.
Volunteer Locations
We welcome volunteers at our retail stores in Dearborn, Livonia, Woodhaven, Ypsilanti, Canton, Commerce, Southfield, and Madison Heights, as well as at our Detroit warehouse. See locations here.
Volunteers assist with tasks such as stocking shelves, sorting donations, and moving furniture.
Every sale made in our retail stores helps to fund the many programs and services that Goodwill offers. You can learn more about these programs here.
Volunteer Days
General volunteer days are held on the first Friday of every month.
You can sign up as an individual or a group. Only one representative needs to register for your group. Volunteer slots are limited, so early registration is encouraged.
How to Get Started
1. Sign Up to Volunteer
Fill out the online form
2. Background check
Goodwill will run a criminal background check on you. All volunteer applicants that are a good match for our stores will have their applications forwarded to the store of their choice.
Please Note: Due to the nature of the retail environment, those with a criminal history that includes theft, physical violence or sexual misconduct within the last five to ten years may not be eligible to volunteer in our stores. If you are unsure about your background, we welcome all individuals in need of community service to submit your application for consideration.
3. Get started!
Once your application is approved, a store manager will contact you to schedule your first volunteer shift.
Questions? Please email questions to development@goodwilldetroit.org.
